Yousef Yu Chinese social media accounts
Starting With International Social Media
When I first started creating content on international social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and others, I always noticed that Arabic content was everywhere. But at the same time, it was very rare to see someone truly connecting the Arab world with China in a real and authentic way.
As someone with Chinese nationality and a strong interest in content creation, I always wanted to become that bridge between the Arab world and China, especially because many people see China as a closed or distant world.
My First Shock Inside China
The first time I traveled to China while actively using social media, I was surprised to discover that most global social media apps were blocked there.
That was the beginning of the real adventure.
For almost 40 days, I kept trying to access international platforms by testing different VPN services. Some worked for one day and stopped the next week, while others barely worked at all.
At that moment, I realized that the internet in China is completely different.
It is not just another version of the internet we already know.
How I Entered the World of Chinese Apps
Instead of only trying to return to global platforms, I started exploring Chinese social media applications themselves.
That was when I discovered an entire digital world that many people in the Arab community still know very little about.
One of the main reasons I became interested in Chinese platforms was the massive audience there.
According to global statistics, China alone has a population larger than several Middle Eastern regions combined, which made me realize how huge the opportunities inside the Chinese internet really are.
After spending time researching and exploring these platforms, I noticed that awareness about Chinese social media apps is still very limited among Arabic audiences. Most people may hear about them, but they usually do not understand how these platforms work or what kind of content exists there.
That is why I decided to share my personal experience and the platforms I personally use.
Are Chinese Algorithms Really Different?
Yes, very different.
Global platforms like Instagram or TikTok mainly focus on hooks and fast attention-grabbing content, while many Chinese platforms focus more on presentation style, visual excitement, and how the idea itself is delivered.
Honestly, it feels like entering a completely different digital world.
That is why I usually prefer sharing direct profile links instead of letting people get lost between hundreds of different Chinese apps.
Chinese Platforms I Use
Here, I mainly post short videos about Arab culture in the Chinese language, trying to introduce parts of our lifestyle and culture to Chinese audiences in a simple and understandable way.
Bilibili
This platform is very similar to YouTube, so I mainly use it for longer videos and content that requires more explanation and details.
Alipay
Most people know this app only as a payment platform, but in reality, it includes many additional features, including content-sharing tools. I sometimes use it to post short videos, similar to WeChat.
Xiaohongshu
Also known by many people as “RedNote.”
Here, I also post short-form content related to Arab culture and daily life. The platform is especially strong when it comes to engagement and content reach.
